LEWIS MCKEE

Funeral services were held for Lewis McKee, 100, of Montezuma at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001 at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma with Rev. H. Burr Bryant of the United Methodist Church officiating.

Music was provided by soloist Mrs. Rhonda Minner and organist Miss Alice Underwood.

Casket bearers were Anthony McKee, Chris McKee, Forrest Gorsuch, Jon McKee, Brandon McKee and John Westerkamp.

Interment was in Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma. Memorials can be sent to the Montezuma United Methodist Church.

Lewis McKee died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001 at the Ramsey Home in Des Moines.

He was born Aug. 1, 1900 on a farm in Poweshiek County, the son of William and Mary (Hicks) McKee. He graduated from Cornell College in 1925.

On Nov. 4, 1927 he married Miriam Welcher at Indianola. To this union two sons and one daughter were born. The couple farmed for many years northeast of Barnes City before retiring to Montezuma. For the past two years they have resided at the Ramsey Home in Des Moines.

Lewis was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Men's group. While living on the farm he was also a government crop reporter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Fred McKee.

Lewis is survived by his wife, Miriam of the Ramsey Home in Des Moines, two sons and their wives, Douglas and Janice of Tucson, AZ and Bruce and Martha of Des Moines; one daughter and her husband, Carolyn and Stan McGrew of Morgan, Utah; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
