HARRY HAWLEY HOLMES
********************************

Harry Hawley Holmes, formerly of Greenwich, New York, where he was born August 25th, 1853, died in Los Angeles, California, September 19th, 1914, after an illness lasting many months.

His home at one time was in Grinnell, Iowa, where his aged mother, Mrs. Fannie E. Holmes, still resides, and where he met and married Miss Sara Phillips, who with their two children, Henry and Edith, survives him.

He was for more than 25 years resident of East Los Angeles and a member of the Eastside Congregational church.

He was always ready to lend a helping hand where needed--singing in the choir, assisting in Sunday school and even served a while as deacon.

Mr. Holmes for several years served the City of Los Angeles in various ways--as deputy sheriff, deputy assessor and for some years as assistant in the county clerk's office.

He was interested in politics, often giving much of his time to the support of a candidate he considered worthy.

A man of deep affections and generous impulses he made many friends.
