WILLIAM HOLMES SERVICES HELD

William M. Holmes, 16, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael S. Holmes of 1216 Spencer St., Grinnell, died Monday afternoon at University Hospitals in Iowa City. Death was the result of a self-inflicted bullet wound sustained at his home Friday morning.

Graveside services were held at 1:30 Wednesday at Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Hugh A. Shiveley, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Pallbearers will be John O. Holmes, Duane Rhinehart, Richard Rhinehart, Paul Rhinehart, Carmen Wilson, and George Wilson. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home for additional information.

The son of Michael Sarsfield and Alice Faye Rhinehart Holmes, he was born Dec. 28, 1961, in Grinnell. He lived in Norwalk, Calif., most of his life and was active in sports while in school, participating in water polo, baseball, tennis and basketball. He was a sophomore at Grinnell High School the past year and was a member of the tennis team. In recent months he was employed at the Hy-Vee Food Store.

Survivors include his father and step-mother; his mother, Mrs. Alice Faye Holmes of Concord, Calif.; two sisters, Kimberly Faye Holmes of Concord and Lucinda Marie Holmes, also of Concord; a brother, John Michael Holmes of Grinnell; his half sisters, Susan Elaine Vanderwaal of Tulsa, Okla., Ruth Lee Graham of Cleveland, Tenn., and Sharon Louise Hughes, also of Cleveland; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Rhinehart of Brooklyn, William E. Scott of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Ruby Gelormino of Norwalk, Calif., and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mildred Marie Wilson of Grinnell.
