John M. Holmes, 18, of Norwalk, Calif., formerly of Grinnell, died Saturday, Sept. 19, at a Whittier, Calif., hospital as a result of injuries he suffered in a motorcycle accident.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Whittier.
The son of Michael and Patricia Scott Holmes, he was born on June 21, 1969, in Downey, Calif. He had lived in Grinnell for a few years before returning to California in 1985. He was a graduate of Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe Springs, Calif.
Survivors include his parents; five sisters, Susan Vanderwaal, Ruth Graham and Sharon Hughes, all of Cleveland, Tenn., and Kimberly Kapel and Lucinda Schmidt, both of Concord, Calif.; and his grandmothers, Mildred Wilson of Grinnell and Ruby Gelormino of Norwalk, Calif.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William.
