Ella Lola Holmes was born in East-Otto, New York, Aug. 24th, 1852. She came to Iowa with her parents when a young girl. She taught in the public schools until her marriage to Olaf Nelson in March, 1873. One son was born to them, who died a the age of 2-1/2 years. Since that time, Mrs. Nelson gradually failed in health until her death on Feb. 20th, 1903. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.T. Marvin at the home of her father, Mr. John Holmes, in Grinnell, Iowa at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Feb. 22nd, 1903. Her remains were laid to rest in Hazelwood Cemetery.
