RITES TODAY
FOR MR. HOLMES

Dawson R. Holmes, 72, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 12, at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert C. Smith of the Grinnell First Baptist Church officiating. Organist was Edward Bohstedt. Pallbearers were Harold Andes, Harold Brown, Donovan Evans, Willard Hagen, Howard Raffety and Willard Wells. Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery.

Memorials in Mr. Holmes' name may be made to the Grinnell First Baptist Church and left at the Smith Funeral Home.

The son of Mark and Jessie Evans Holmes, he was born Aug. 14, 1910, at Grinnell. He attended schools here and later helped his father in a trucking business, delivering coal from Centerville.

He was employed at McNally's Meat Market for a number of years and later at the former Van Wechel Chevrolet-Oldsmobile garage. He suffered a stroke 26 years ago and had lived in nursing homes since that time.

Mr. Holmes was a member of the Grinnell First Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sisters, Cheryl Myers and Claribel Lamb, both of Grinnell, and Myrtle Osborn of Rte. 1, Malcom.
