FUNERAL MONDAY

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Congregational church for Mrs. Phoebe Ann Holmes, who passed away Saturday morning at her home, aged 71 years. Rev. W.W. Bolt D.D., pastor of the church, conducted the services, assisted by Rev. H.C. Rice. Burial was made beside her husband in the Victor cemetery.

Phoebe Ann Gray Holmes was born in Holmes County, Ohio, Dec. 7, 1856 and passed away at Grinnell Feb. 11, 1928 aged 71 years, 2 months and 4 days.

When 11 years of age she came with her parents, in a covered wagon, to Victor, Iowa. Dec. 24, 1874 she was married to David H. Holmes and they lived in Victor until 1902 when they moved to Grinnell and this has been her home since that time. Her husband passed away in May, 1905. To this union 9 children were born, Mr. Mark Holmes, Mr. George Holmes, Miss Phoebe Holmes and Mrs. Tom Carter of Grinnell, Mrs. John Stodla and Mrs. Nelle Talbert of Marshalltown. The other children preceded their mother to the better world. There are nine grand children and one great grand child. She leaves to mourn her loss also a half brother, James Fisher of Grinnell.

She became a member of the Congregational Church at an early age; was a member of this Grinnell church for many years, and a devoted Christian all her life.
