MAXINE JOHNSON, 82

Maxine J. Johnson, 82, of Montezuma died Friday, Aug. 21, 1998 at the Montezuma Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Aug. 25 at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma with the Rev. George M. Salnave of First Presbyterian Church of Montezuma presiding.

Musical selections were "Wings of a Snow White Dove," "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art," performed by organist Kathleen Ramsay.

Casket bearers were Jimmy Fisk, Jim Smothers, David Deweese, Curtis Johnson, Steve Audas and Michael Smothers.

Interment was in Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma.

Maxine was born May 20, 1916 in Montezuma, the daughter of William P. and Mabel G. (Bryan) Dunton. She attended Barnes City High School before the family moved to Montezuma.

On May 1, 1933, she married Stanford H. Johnson at Little Mount Baptist Church, west of Montezuma. To this union two daughters and two sons were born.

They farmed in the Fremont and Montezuma areas.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Delon Johnson; and a brother, Virgil Dunton.

She is survived by her husband, Stanford and their family, Donna and Jim Fisk of Montezuma; William Duane and Jacki Johnson of Plainfield, Ind. and Darlene and David Deweese of Rancho Mirage, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one sister, Pauline Smith of East Moline, Ill.; other relatives and many friends.

A memorial fund has been established in Maxine's name.
