Elta F. Thorp, 60, the wife of Clifford B. Thorp of 1317 Prairie St., Grinnell, died suddenly Saturday morning, Oct. 26, of an apparent heart attack.

The daughter of Raymond Earl and Ethel Mae Walford Dunton, she was born April 11, 1914, in Brooklyn. She attended the Brooklyn public schools and was graduated from Brooklyn High School.

On Jan. 2, 1933, she was married to Clifford B. Thorp at Rock Island, Ill. The couple had two sons, Roger B. Thorp of Des Moines and Gary M. Thorp of Grinnell.

Mr. and Mrs. Thorp had made their home in Grinnell since their marriage. Mrs. Thorp was a member of the United Methodist Church and had been employed by General Telephone Company of the Midwest since 1959, most recently in the capacity of assistant operator services manager.

She is survived by her husband, Cliff; her two sons; two grandchildren, Renee and Dana Thorp of Des Moines; and one sister, Mrs. Lyle (Arlene) Goodwin of Malcom. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Wayne "Tony" Dunton.

Funeral services for Mrs. Thorp will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John W. McCallum, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist will be Mrs. Willard Heffner, and pallbearers will be Glenn Meldrem, Max Meldrem, Raymond Meldrem, Charles Reeves, Richard Reeves, and Don Sowerwine. Flowerbearer will be Mrs. Don Sowerwine.

Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.
