WILLIAM COCHRAN

Funeral services for William Keith Cochran of Woodland Hills, Calif., formerly of rural Deep River, were conducted Friday, April 27, at Goldenrod Cemetery in Deep River.

Mr. Cochran was a retired electrical engineer.

He was born on a farm near Deep River May 21, 1916, the son of William and Carrie Cochran. Following the death of his mother, he moved to Cedar Rapids where he and two younger brothers were raised by their aunts, Grace and Edna Cochran.

He graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids in 1935 and from Iowa State University in 1939. He was a four-year letter-winner as a varsity swimmer at Iowa State. He was married to Ruth Adams, and the couple moved to Schenectady, N.Y., where Mr. Cochran began his electrical engineering career with General Electric Co.'s radar department.

At the end of World War II, the family moved to Los Angeles where Mr. Cochran joined Hughes Aircraft. He retired after 36 years of working on radar and related advanced projects as a systems analyst.

Mr. Cochran is survived by his wife; two daughters, Judith Brannan of Dallas, Texas, and Betsy Van Doren of Charlottesville, Va.; two sons, David of Irvine, Calif., and Greg of Santa Monica, Calif.; two grandchildren; and two brothers, Kenneth of Tarzana, Calif., and Jack of Irvine.
