RUTH I. STRAND

Ruth I. Strand, 94, of Friendship Manor, Grinnell, died Thursday, Oct. 12, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Raymond C. Lott, of the Grinnell United Methodist Church officiating. Organist was Alice Renaud.

Pallbearers were Michael Sawyer, Kurt, Neil and Tim Strand, and Kevin and Dana Zucker. Honorary bearers were Ruth Cable, Carroll Eames, Marion McClure, Donald Strand and Irene Weir.

Burial was in Stavanger Friends Cemetery north of Dunbar.

The daughter of Thomas Peter Randolph and Edwardina Marie Thorsen Somme, she was born Feb. 13, 1895 in Ida Grove. She moved with her family to Canada near Olds, Ata., living there until age 16. when she returned to Grinnell and attended Grinnell High School.

She was married to Jesse Strand Feb. 10, 1916, at Oskaloosa. The couple farmed in Chester Township then moved to a farm near Gilman in 1920. While in Gilman, she was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Courtesy Club and was active in the Farm Bureau. Following her husband's death, she came to Grinnell. She has been a resident of Friendship Manor for the past 2-1/2 years.

Surviving are two sons, Glen D. of Grinnell and Lyle I. "Bud" Strand of LeGrand; one daughter, Jessica Lorraine Zucker of Sacramento, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and fur great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and four sisters.
