TIM STRAND

Tim Strand of San Jose, California, formerly of Laurel and Grinnell, Iowa, passed away December 29, 2013, at the age of 64, at his home in San Jose.

Although he was a non-smoker, his death was a result of lung cancer. Lung cancer kills more than any other form of cancer and during his treatment, he participated in a clinical trial working towards better treatment and a possible cure of lung cancer.

Tim was born on April 17, 1948, in Marshalltown. He graduated from Grinnell High School, valedictorian of his class, in 1966. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Physics degree in 1970 at the University of California at San Diego. Through his schooling and work, he traveled extensively and made long-lasting friendships from many countries.

Survivors include his wife Sue (Malfeld) Strand, his son Matthew and his moved loved and chosen granddaughter Kassandra Le; his mother Olive Strand of Grinnell; sister Sharon (Earl) Lewis of Urbandale; brothers Neil of Marshalltown, and Kurt (Rene) of Grinnell; sisters-in-law Jan, Lynn and Diane and brother-in-law Gary; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his father Glen Strand and father-and mother-in-law Don and Ann Malfeld.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on April 13 at the Seeland Park Social Center in Grinnell.
