Bruce R. Patten, age 65, of Brooklyn, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 13, prior to the service. A memorial fund has been established.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Jocelyn; two sons from a previous marriage, Scott Patten of Boone, and Dustin Patten of Grinnell; a son, Chad of Brooklyn; his mother, Lois Patten of Brooklyn; a brother, Gene of Brooklyn; and two sisters, Ellen Visser and husband, Terry of Iowa Falls, and Faye Klenk and husband, Darwin of Malcom.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Patten; and a daughter, Shari, in infancy.

Bruce Richard Patten was born June 15, 1949, in Grinnell, the son of Jack and Lois Johnson Patten. He graduated from BGM High School with the Class of 1968. Bruce served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. Following his return, Bruce farmed for many years. He also was a custodian at Kwik Star for 17 years. Bruce and Jocelyn Ainas were united in marriage on Oct. 1, 2010, at Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn.

Bruce enjoyed watching movies and collecting glassware. He loved his family and cherished the time he spent with them.
