JACK R. PATTEN, 87

Jack R. Patten, 87, of rural Brooklyn, died at his residence on Thursday, January 1, 2004.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home in Brooklyn, with Bruce Van Stelton and Jason Sweazy officiating. Interment was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.

The casket bearers were Brandon Klenk, Brant Klenk, Breanna Klenk, Scott Patten, Dustin Patten, Carey French, Karaleen French and Kathleen Visser.

The honorary casket bearers were Ernie Swanson, Carl Klenk, Rick Swanson, Dalton Jones, Bob Hillson, Alan Plesek, Jim Goodlaxson and Doug Plesek.

A memorial fund has been established.

Jack Richard Patten, the son of Alfred and Daisy Orr Patten, was born December 31, 1916, in Brooklyn. After attending country school, he graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1935. He served in the Army during World War II, from May 1942 until his discharge in May 1945. He returned home to the family farm.

On September 29, 1945, he married Lois Ann Johnson of Lakota at Blue Earth, Minnesota.

Jack is survived by his wife; his daughters Ellen (Terry) Visser of Iowa Falls, and Faye (Darwin) Klenk of Malcom; his sons, Bruce Patten and Gene Patten, both of Brooklyn; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild; his brother, Harry Patten of Brooklyn; his sister, Ruth Bowman of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming; a daughter-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Howard; two sisters, Gladys and Virgie Patten; and a granddaughter.
