MARIE SCHULTE, 100

Mrs. Marie Schulte, 100, of Brooklyn, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Brooklyn Community Estates.

Funeral services for Mrs. Schulte were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 11 at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Rev. John Reynolds, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiated. The musician was Angie Radcliffe and special selections were "How Great Thou Art" and "Old Rugged Cross." Casket-bearers were John Manatt, Tim Manatt, Kelly Willett, Jeff Kruse, Charlie Hawkins and John Hawkins. Interment was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Marie Catherine (Kriegel) Schulte was born on May 5, 1902, in Madison Township, Poweshiek County. Her parents were Balzer Kriegel and Mary Ann (Brimmer) Kriegel. Marie was one of eight children. She grew up in the Madison Township area and attended a rural school. On Dec. 20, 1922, Marie was married to Oscar Charles Schulte in Des Moines. They farmed the Schulte family farm west of Manly for forty-seven years. They moved to Brooklyn in 1965, and Oscar died May 6, 1987. In 1995, Marie became a resident of Brooklyn Community Estates.

She was a member of the Lutheran faith. Marie enjoyed poetry, gardening, cooking and sewing. During World War II she made candy bars for the troops.

Her parents; her husband; two sisters, Josephine Willett and Marian Powell, and five brothers, Fritz Kriegel, Roy Kriegel, Walter Kriegel, Floyd Kriegel, and Balzer Kriegel preceded her in death.
