MRS. JESSIE BOWIE

Mrs. Jessie Bowie passed away Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock November 17th. She was born in Glasgow, Scotland, May 20, 1839. She was one of a family of eight children. Her maiden name was Jessie Janet Barnett. She was the daughter of John Barnett and Jessie Nicalson Barnett, of Scotland. She married Robert Bowie, in Glasgow in the year 1857. She was the mother of 6 children; her husband and 4 children have preceded her to the great beyond.

She leaves one sister in Glasgow, two children, nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, besides many friends to mourn her loss.

She was a good mother and a consistent Christian. She was a member of the Presbyterian church from early childhood. Nearly 20 years ago, she became a member of the First Baptist Church of Grinnell, there being no Presbyterian church here at that time. She came to America in the year of 1864 and has been a resident of Grinnell since 1875.

Mrs. Bowie has been a great sufferer the past six years, undergoing several operations within that time.

The funeral was held at her daughter's, Mrs. C.E. Decatur, 917 Center street. Many friends and neighbors gathered to pay tribute. The service was conducted by Rev. G.P. Mitchell.

The many floral offerings were especially beautiful.

Present from out of town were Mr. Belknap, and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Guy Belknap and her daughter Nellie of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Lyman of Marshalltown and Mrs. Kate Wisecarver of Belle Plaine.

CARD OF THANKS.

We the undersigned wish to extend our thanks to our friends and neighbors for their kindness and sympathy during the sickness of our dear mother. Mere words fail to express our appreciation of the many tokens of sympathy received in the floral offerings from our friends, neighbors and different societies.
