Alice S. Riley, 107, of Montezuma, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003 at the home of her grandson, Larry and Bonnie Meyers, in Malcom, Iowa.
Her funeral was held Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma with Rev. Howard Lord officiating. Rhonda Minner, soloist and Marilyn Helmick, organist provided the music. Burial was at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
Casket bearers were Larry Meyers, Tom Tucker, David Meyers, Tim Tucker and Ronald Riley, Jr.
She was born November 14, 1895 at Elliott, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Effie (Eckles) Sanders. She lived in Red Oak, for a short time and then moved to Des Moines to live and help her sister with her family. While there she met and married Orville Riley in 1915. Into this marriage five children were born, Romaine, Ronald, Ruthe, Reda and Rose. Her life centered around her children.
After the death of her husband in 1980, she lived with her daughter Rose for over 20 years. She spent 3 months at Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the last 2 months of her life was spent with Larry and Bonnie Meyers, son of Rose.
Alice is survived by her children, Ronald Riley of Des Moines, IA, Ruthe Burlingame of Athens, AL, Reda Jeffrey of Des Moines, and Rose White of Montezuma, 10 grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orville; 1 sister; 1 brother and her first born, Romaine.
Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church, Montezuma.
