Maxine, daughter of Burl and Audrey Sparks Miller, was born on May 21, 1915 near Sully, Ia., and died on June 26, 1982 at Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa, at 67 years of age.
She attended rural school in Jasper County and graduated from Montezuma High School in 1933.
On February 6, 1935, she was united in marriage to Walter Ketels at New Sharon. To this union four children were born. After their marriage, they farmed south of Montezuma until moving into town in 1976.
She was a member of the Montezuma Methodist Church, Mary Circle and the LGT Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one infant son.
Maxine is survived by her husband Walter of Montezuma and their family: Karen and Ralph Willett of Brooklyn, Judi Ketels of Nanuet, N.Y. and Sherri and Darrell Spain of Montezuma; three grandchildren: David Willett, Jeff Spain and Jim Spain; one sister Mrs. Byron (Bernice) Smith of Brooklyn and one brother Bruce Miller of Brooklyn.
Funeral services were held June 28 at 10:30 a.m. with the Steffy Funeral Home of Montezuma in charge.
Officiating was Rev. John Darlington of the United Methodist Church, Montezuma.
Miss Alice Underwood, organist and Mrs. Betty Snook, soloist provided the selection "Beyond the Sunset."
Casket bearers were Lyle Vest, Earl DeJong, Carl Anderson, Vern Grife, Russell McVay, and Orville Spain. Interment was in Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma.
