Funeral services were held April 11 at the United Church, Deep River with the Rev. Kenneth Arentson, Gibson, officiating.
Music "How Great Thou Art" was by Mrs. Verla Van Dee, organist. Interment was in Golden Rod Cemetery, Deep River. Arrangements were by the Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma.
Casket-bearers were Wayne Rieck, Bill Warwick, Richard Geiger, Quentin Rose, George Webber and Leland Winegarden.
Martha Ida Miner, 94, daughter of Herman and Anna Rieck, was born near Guernsey, Iowa on July 8, 1890 and died at Northbrook Manor in Cedar Rapids, April 8, 1985.
Her parents came from Berlin, Germany to Guernsey in 1899 with three sons. After the birth of their daughter, Martha, three more sons were born. Martha was united in marriage to Elmer Miner at Guernsey in September 1910. To this union two daughters and one son were born. They lived most of their life in the Guernsey and Deep River area.
Martha was a member of the Methodist Church and later the United Church in Deep River. She had been a member of Eastern Star, Society of Methodist Women, 50 Plus Club and Sew and Sew Club. Martha was always active in her church as long as her health permitted. She was interested in sewing and other things. She was always busy helping others and caring for children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer on April 19, 1965 (1964); five brothers: Paul, Walter, Otto, Lewis and Harry.
Martha is survived by her family: Mrs. Marita Mehaffey of Cedar Rapids; Dale and Dorcas Miner of Escondido, Calif., and Margaret Darlene and Lehn Potter of Bethesda, Md; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one brother, William Rieck of Cedar Rapids.
