Funeral services for George L. Henry, 81, of Brooklyn, were held Friday morning, April 9, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn. He died Monday evening, April 5, 1999, in Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Grinnell.
Rev. Richard Okumu officiated. Marilyn Kriegel was organist. Casket bearers were Julie Kasal, Dale Kasal, Jodie Brady, Michael Henry, Tom Henry and Patrick Henry. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn.
George Leslie Henry, son of William George Henry and Ida Mae Kingsley Henry, was born November 23, 1917, at Lorimor. When he was one year old his family moved to Bosworth, Missouri, where he lived until the age of 12 years. The family then returned to Iowa.
On February 18, 1939, George was married to Rosella Genevieve Reitzler in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn. They farmed many years near Deep River. He worked for ASC for 10 years and Pioneer Seed Corn for 10 years. In September of 1991 they moved into Brooklyn. Mrs. Henry died February 17, 1992.
Mr. Henry was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Brooklyn and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three sisters, and one brother.
Survivors include his son, John Henry and his wife, Billie Jo; one sister, Anna Miller of Marengo; five grandchildren, Julie Kasal, Jodie Brady, Michael Henry, Tom Henry, and Patrick Henry; and nine great-grandchildren.
Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn, was in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established.
