Lila L. Shaw, 85, of Malcom died Monday morning, Oct. 5, at the home of her daughter, Opal Wells of Grinnell.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John C. Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Organist was Barbara Lien, and vocalist was Sherry Shults. Pallbearers were Ronald Baltisberger, Wilbur Baltisberger, Floyd Durr, Melvin Hohl, Arthur Iverson and Eugene Mann. Burial was at the Pleasant Township Cemetery at Ewart.
The daughter of John L. and Ella Wood Campbell Cummings, she was born Jan. 13, 1896, near Malcom. She attended rural school near the family farm and later graduated from Grinnell High School in 1914. She taught rural school for one year.
On July 30, 1915, she was married to Clifford E. Shaw at Malcom. The couple farmed in the Malcom area. Mr. Shaw died on Feb. 14, 1970, and Mrs. Shaw continued to live on the farm.
Survivors include her daughter, Opal Wells of Grinnell, and two granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Ray, Scott and Wilbur Cummings; and a half-sister, Neta Morrison.
[Note: There was an error (made by whomever wrote the original obit) regarding place of marriage. They were married 30 July 1915 in Newton, Jasper County, Iowa and not in Malcom.]
