Charles Hicklin McDonald was born near Mooresville, Morgan Co., Indiana, October 3, 1835. He came with his parents to Iowa in 1946 and settled in Keokuk county later coming to Poweshiek county.
He was married to Nancy M. Hays Sept. 9, 1855. To them were born six children, three girls and three boys, Subinah, Hannah Jane, John C., Francis H., George E. and America Ann.
His wife died in 1894 at the age of 71 years.
He leaves to mourn his loss one brother David McDonald of Gridley, Calif., who is 95 years old, two sons and one daughter, John C. of Grinnell, George E. of Port Angeles, Wash., America Ann Grovenburg of California, twenty four grand children and a number of great grand children.
He went to Montana in 1915 later to Port Angeles, Washington, where he died at the home of his grandson, Warren McDonald, at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 4 days.
