DIES SATURDAY
AT KNOXVILLE

Mrs. Carrie M. Ahrens, 77, Grinnell, widow of Edward F. Ahrens, died suddenly Saturday morning at the home of her daughter in Knoxville.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. L.H. Streich, pastor of St. John's Lutheran church, officiating. Organist was Mrs. Kathleen Heffner and flower bearers were Mrs. Gerald Bolen and Mrs. Raymond White.

Serving as pallbearers were William Flaherty, Francis Schmitz, Hugh Meacham, Floyd Stewart, Erwin Wang and Alfred Wisecarver. Interment was made in Hazelwood cemetery.

The daughter of Bertha Schutts and Carl A. Schultz, she was born on a farm five miles east of Grinnell on Sept. 6th, 1882. She received her education in the local rural schools.

On March 14th, 1905, she was united in marriage with Edward F. Ahrens at Barnes City. To this union were born five children, four of whom survive: Wes of Grinnell, Mrs. Verna Tullis of Knoxville, Milo W. of Grinnell, and Edward of Fairfield.

Mrs. Ahrens had made her home in Knoxville with Mrs. Tullis since last August. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran church and the Lutheran Aid.

Preceding her in death besides her parents, were her husband, Edward, on June 3rd, 1956; one son, Fremond; and two brothers and two sisters.

Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Ben Wiazeck of Des Moines and Mrs. Hiram Eichhorn of California; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
