BARNEY ICENBICE
BORN ON HOMESTEAD
NEAR DEEP RIVER

Sorrowing friends filled the Methodist church at Deep River June 23 to pay final tribute to Barney Icenbice. Rev. Wm. Morehouse conducted the service, Mrs. Clint Icenbice played the organ selections and accompanied Charles Dunham as he rendered "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Near to the Heart of God."

Interment was in Golden Rod cemetery. Casket bearers were Amos Kilmer, Ted Van Dee, George Rank, George Webber, George Hinrichs and Raymond Martin.

Ernest Lester, son of Ivan and Charlotte Icenbice, was born Sept. 26, 1905, on the family homestead east of Deep River, and died at the University hospital, Iowa City, June 20 at 58 years of age.

On Jan. 16, 1924, he was united in marriage with Beryl Hopwood; to this union three sons were born.

Known to his many friends as "Barney," he was a man of great spirit and courage, always ready to lend a hand to a friend in need. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, a lover of the great outdoors, an ardent conservationist.

He farmed all of his life near Deep River where he also engaged in the trucking business, and various other enterprises.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, William and Ivan; seven grandchildren; a sister, Hazel Jack, Ladora; other relatives and many friends.
