KENNETH R. WIETING

Kenneth R. Wieting, 92, of Grinnell died Saturday, March 25, 2006, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 28, at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Stephen Jasch, pastor of the church, officiating. Organist was Margaret Amo. Private family burial was held at Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 1224 East St., Grinnell.

He was born Aug. 7, 1913, on a farm near Tulare, S.D., to Charles and Ethel Stephens Wieting. He was a graduate of Tulare High School and received a degree from Sioux Falls College, Sioux Falls, S.D. He was married on Oct. 27, 1937, in Sioux Falls to Pearl J. Lofgren. They lived in Sioux Falls until 1967 when they moved to Estherville, Iowa. He worked in the personnel department of John Morrell & Company for over 40 years both in Sioux Falls and Estherville. Following his retirement in 1978, the Wietings moved to Bentonville, Ark. In 1990 they moved to Grinnell to be near their daughter Kay Davoux.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Grinnell, the Grinnell Kiwanis Club, the Grinnell Country Club and Seeland Park Board of Directors. He enjoyed volunteering at Grinnell Regional Medical Center, fishing, golf, quilting and attending sports events.

He is survived by one son Roger of St. Louis, Mo., and one daughter Kay Davoux of Grinnell; four grandchildren and eight great granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one brother Maurice and three sisters, Lucie, Trewbella and Lois.
