MARTIN SCHWAB, 81,
SERVICES MONDAY

Martin Edgar Schwab, 81, passed away early Friday morning at his apartment in the Monroe Hotel, Grinnell.

The son of John Henry and Addie Lang Schwab, he was born Dec. 26, 1885, near Oxford Junction, Ia. Later his family moved to a farm near Grinnell. He was married to Martha Elizabeth Kelley (Kelly) at St. Columbanus Catholic church in Grinnell. They farmed near Grinnell and in 1921 moved to Des Moines, where Mr. Schwab was employed as a streetcar conductor.

During World War II he worked in war plants in Baraboo, Wis., and Rochester, Minn. Following the war they lived in Riceville, Ia., and LaSalle, Ill. In 1959 Mr. and Mrs. Schwab returned to Grinnell to make their home, and Mr. Schwab was active as an automobile salesman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Martha in 1962; and a brother and sister, George Schwab and Mrs. Edgar (Mae) Davenport. He is survived four half brothers and a half sister, Joe Schwab and Mrs. Harlan (Delora) Cratty, both of Grinnell; Charles Schwab of Omaha; John Schwab of Ojibwa, Wis.; and Lyle Schwab of Azusa, Calif. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church in Grinnell.

Requiem Low Mass for Martin Schwab was held at 10 a.m. this morning (Monday) at St. Mary's Catholic church, with the Rev. Leo V. Kuebrich, pastor of St. Mary's, officiating. Pallbearers were Alex Comerford, P. Comerford, M. Hotchkin, V. Hotchkin, B. Flanagan, and James Higdon. Burial was in the Calvary section of Hazelwood cemetery. The Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Smith Funeral Home.
