LAURA ADKINS SERVICES HELD

Laura B. Adkins, 91, of Rock Creek died Thursday afternoon at St. Francis Manor.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Damon Reese of the Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and pallbearers were Leo Ahrens, James E. Adkins, Harold Buck, Garold Dhondt, Virgil Doud and Dwight Niday.

Burial was at Rock Creek Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials in Mrs. Adkins' name may be made to St. Francis Manor.

She was born Jan. 20, 1889, at Oneida, Tenn., and attended school in that community. She came to Iowa in 1917 and worked as a domestic for several families in the Grinnell area.

On July 20, 1922, she was married to Martin Lafayette Adkins in Newton. The couple farmed in the Rock Creek area. Mr. Adkins died in 1936, and Mrs. Adkins continued to live on the farm until her health began to fail in 1977, at which time she became a resident of St. Francis Manor.

Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. George F. (Nancy) Clement of Smithtown, N.Y.; five grandchildren, including George Clement III of Rte. 2, Grinnell; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
