LIFETIME AREA
RESIDENT DIES

Mrs. Laura B. Adkins, 96, a lifetime resident of the Grinnell area, died Saturday morning at a local hospital following an extended illness.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) from the James-Schalinske Funeral Home with Elder D.T. Talbert and Elder Wesley Jones officiating. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Kathleen Heffner.

Pallbearers were Harold Haines, Gail Young, Bernard Young, Olaf Young, Gilbert Taylor and Ross Mintle. Interment was in Rock Creek cemetery.

Should friends desire memorial contributions may be sent to the Community hospital building fund.

The daughter of General W. and Martha Van Meter Young, she was born on Feb. 28th, 1869, in Jasper county, Iowa. She attended the Victor school just west of Grinnell and on Dec. 8th, 1887, was united in marriage with Grant W. Adkins in Jasper county.

Following their marriage they farmed in the Rock Creek area and after the death of her husband in 1893, she continued to farm and to raise her four children. In 1920 she retired and had made her home in Grinnell.

She was a member of the Primitive Baptist church.

Survivors include her children, Mrs. Corda Haines of San Leandro, Calif., Mrs. Statia Ray, C.O. Adkins, and Mrs. Cretia (Roy) Strasser, all of Grinnell. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grant W.; her parents; and three brothers, Ed Young, Wayne Young and L.N. Young.
