HELEN F. HORRAS, 89

Helen Fern Horras, 89, died following a brief illness on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006, at English Valley Care Center, North English.

A celebration of life service was held on Sunday, Sept. 24, at the Community Church, rural Deep River, with Pastor Dan Dickey officiating. Burial was at the Community Cemetery. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service, North English, was in charge of the arrangements.

Helen was born on Feb. 22, 1917, near Millersburg, the daughter Alfred and Coral Mae Humphrey Wyant. She attended Dayton country school and graduated from Millersburg High School in 1936. Helen was united in marriage to Orville C. Horras on Aug. 17, 1940, at the Ohio Church Parsonage near Ladora. They lived and farmed near Millersburg. Helen was a member of the Community Church where she was involved in the community mission circle. She also volunteered for many years at the East Iowa Bible Camp and enjoyed gardening and sewing. She became a resident of the English Valley Care Center, North English, in September 2004.

Helen was preceded in death by husband Orville in November 1982 and a sister, Marilyn Gorsch.

She is survived by five children: Pat (Arlo) Tish of Deep River, Iowa; Carolyn (Gary) Armstrong of Deep River, Iowa; David (Carol) Horras of Millersburg, Iowa; Kathy (Delbert) Bahr of Fredricksburg, Virginia; and Darold Horras of Marengo, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brothers Arland Wyant of North English, Iowa and Gerald Wyant of Deep River, Iowa.
