GERALD LEROY WYANT, 89

Gerald Leroy Wyant, was born Aug. 28, 1920, to Alfred and Coral Mae (Humphrey) Wyant, living in the rural Millersburg area. He graduated from Millersburg High School in 1938, working with his family farming, threshing, making molasses and milking.

Gerald married Hazel Mae Wolf on Jan. 17, 1946, who died Aug. 12, 1990, from cancer. To this union was born two daughters. He proudly served in the Army, stationed in Japan. Gerald spent most of his years farming, milking, and raising livestock on his farm 2-1/2 miles east of Deep River. He also partnered farming with his son-in-law, Gary Worrall, for a number of those years. He remarried on Oct. 12, 1991, to Eleanor (Tompkins) Dietrich and spent retirement years enjoying wood crafting and traveling. He was a member of United Church of Deep River and attended Cornerstone Church, near Millersburg. He was a founding member of the Poweshiek County NFO and a former member of the Deep River School Board and supporter of the East Iowa Bible Camp near Millersburg. Gerald went home to his Lord on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, passing peacefully at the English Valley Care Center.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor, Williamsburg; two daughters, Vera (Gary) Worrall of Montezuma and Nancy (Eldon) Newberry of Amana; grandchildren, Gary Patrick (Kim) Worrall of Park View, Danny Worrall of Belle Plaine, and Scott (Angie) Worrall of Montezuma; great-grandchildren, Breanna, Bryce, Katie, Jordan and McKenna; nine step-children, Helen Warnick, Arlene Warnick, Juanita Sarver, Esther Lown, Dolores Grimm, Ethel Cronbaugh, Carl Dietrich, Keith Dietrich and Ronald Dietrich; 21 step-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Arland (Reva) Wyant of North English.

Preceding him in death are two sisters, Helen Horras and Marilyn Gorsch; and his parents.

A Celebration of Life service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 3, at the United Church of Deep River with Pastor Ben Wilson and Pastor Eric Nygren officiating. Burial was in the Golden Rod Cemetery in Deep River, with military rites by the Morrison-Schrader American Legion Post #296.
