SATURDAY SERVICES HELD FOR LEONARD STOUT

Funeral services for Leonard Stout were conducted from the Montezuma Methodist Church Saturday afternoon, Dec. 18, with the Rev. Ray Biggers of the New Sharon and Union Mills Christian Church officiating. Mrs. Vincent Johnson and Mrs. Earl De Jong, accompanied by Miss Alice Underwood, provided the music.

Casket bearers, all nephews of Mr. Stout, were: Jerry Stout, Irvin Awtry, Elbert Stout, Darrell Stout, Raymond Hite and Bernard Andersen. Interment was in Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa.

Leonard Mahlon Stout, son of Jeremiah and Mary Jane Stigers Stout, was born Nov. 28, 1891, in Mahaska County and died at his home Wednesday, Dec. 15. He was 74 years old.

On June 3, 1914, he was united in marriage to Martha Awtry in Oskaloosa. To this union were born two children, a son, Ray of Montezuma; and a daughter, Geraldine Randels of New Sharon.

Mr. Stout was well known in the Lacey and New Sharon communities where he spent most of his life engaged in farming. In 1949 he and his son moved to the present home near Montezuma.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his two children, Ray and his wife, Doris, and Geraldine and her husband, Homer Randels; four granddaughters, Mrs. Connie Noble of Des Moines, Mrs. Cathy Davis of rural New Sharon, Cheri Randels of New Sharon and Joyce Stout of Montezuma. Also surviving is a nephew, Irvin Awtry of Davenport, who made his home with the Stout family during his youth; two brothers, Galen and Frank of New Sharon; three sisters, Bethel Andersen and Ruth Stout of Oskaloosa, and Dorothy Andersen of Bloomington, Ill.
