MARY C. LOMBARD
DIES SUDDENLY

Word has come to The Herald through a letter from Mrs. Fanny Morrison of the death of Mary C. Lombard, who passed away Jan. 5 at Pasadena, Calif., at the home of her mother's cousin, Mrs. Hamlin. Miss Lombard made her home in Grinnell for many years, first at the Day home and later she gave many months of unselfish devotion to the care of Mrs. J.B. Grinnell. Miss Lombard had not been ill. Death came to her suddenly. She had been planning to come to Clermont to visit Mrs. Morrison and to see Miss Frances Bement, who had taught 29 years in the school in Shaowu, China, built partly through the generosity of Mary and named the Elizabeth Sheldon Lombard School in memory of Mary's mother.

Many Grinnell people of the earlier day knew and loved her and will hear of her passing with deep regret.
