RITES FRIDAY

Frank D. Atkinson, 60, of 603 Pearl St., Grinnell, died suddenly Tuesday at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sam Reaves, pastor of the Grinnell Assembly of God Church, officiating. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of John and Ida Pearson Atkinson, he was born July 25, 1915, in Exira, where he attended public schools. He worked on several farms, and during World War II he served with the U.S. Army. Following his discharge from the service he worked as a blacksmith.

On May 14, 1949, he was married to Geraldine Kendall Sheets in Exira. They moved to Grinnell in 1969. Mr. Atkinson was a member of Focht-Tennant American Legion Post No. 53 in Grinnell. For the past eight years he had been employed at Miracle Recreation Equipment Co.

Survivors include his wife; four children, Eugene Sheets of Grinnell, Mrs. Jack (Barbara Louise) Pedersen of Dana, Spec-4 John Neal Atkinson with the U.S. Army in Germany, and James Kendall Atkinson of the family home; six grandchildren; and one brother, George Atkinson of Exira.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Sam Atkinson; one sister, Rosabelle Atkinson; and three half-brothers, Charles, Carl and Clarence Stanley.
