HAROLD ALLEN BAUMAN

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Oct. 23, at the Malcom United Methodist Church for Harold Allen Bauman, 81, who died of cancer on Oct. 16, 1999, at his home in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Pastor Carol Wehr officiated, and music was provided by Julie Cheney, Marilyn Kriegel and Gerald Freese. Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.

The son of Frank and Florence Bauman, Harold was born March 23, 1918, at his parents' homestead near Pierre, S.D. He graduated from high school in Michigan and served in the United States Air Force during World War II in the China-Burma-India Campaign.

He was married to Lucia Komadina on Dec. 6, 1944, in Malcom, and subsequently worked with his brother-in-law, Allen Kies, in the plumbing and heating business in Malcom, Hartwick and Brooklyn.

Harold was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill, Leslie and Harry; sisters, Lois, Alice and Velma; and a daughter, Martha Joann.

Surviving are his wife of 19 years, Johon "Jodi" Bauman of Oaxaca, Mexico; siblings Lyle Bauman of Malcom and Ruby Cowman of Pleasantville; nine children, Michael Bauman of Kansas City, Lucia Dhooge of Malcom, Tim Bauman of Brooklyn, Tom Bauman of Apex, N.C., Linda Jo Nelson of Springfield, Mo., Gerald Freese of Hollister, Mo., Kim Shanta of Hollister, Mo., Charles Freese of Cocoa, Fla., and Darlene Bauman of Nevada, Mo.; 22 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Harold was one of the founders of Oaxaca Streetchildren Grassroots, which currently provides for the educational needs of 257 Triqui Indian children in Oaxaca, Mexico. Memorials may be made to the Grassroots foundation.
