MARGUERITE MARTIN

Marguerite Martin, 87, of Grinnell died Wednesday, Oct. 13, at St. Francis Manor.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 15, at 1:30 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, with George McGilvrey officiating. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren, Lori Drennan, Lisa Lewman, Larry Lincoln, Russell Lincoln, Berinda Larson, Carrie Martin, Cristina DeKoning, Clint Crawford, Andrew Phipps, Sarah Phipps-Sills, Ryan Broich and Ben Broich. Interment will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12 noon to 8 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Marguerite Martin Memorial Fund.

She was born June 8, 1917, in Grinnell, the daughter of Harry and Ethel Bailey Case. She was a 1935 graduate of Grinnell High School, attended the former Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and Drake University in Des Moines and then taught at Chester School, rural Grinnell. She was married on May 29, 1948 in Kirksville, Mo., to William (Bill) Martin. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She was also a sports fan, especially of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Dallas Cowboys.

She is survived by one son Lee Martin of Kirksville, Mo.; three daughters, Harriet Lincoln of Larkspur, Colo., Marla Crawford of Grinnell and Billie Marie Broich of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and one sister, Billie Walker of Mayflower. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother Lyman Case; one sister, Idamarie Smith, and one great granddaughter.
