NEIL CRAWFORD

Neil Clark Crawford, 43, of Grinnell died Thursday, Aug. 6, at his home.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Pallbearers were Scott Bruggeman and Ben, Clint, Jacob, Jerry, Jim, Jim Jr. and Timothy Crawford.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, with members of the Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial Unit performing military rites.

The son of Clark William and Molly Crabb Crawford, he was born Dec. 7, 1954, in Ipswich, Suffolk, England. Raised in a military family, he spent his childhood in England, France and several communities throughout the U.S. before moving to Grinnell in 1970. He was a 1972 graduate of Grinnell High School.

He was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Army and was the recipient of several decorations, including two Bronze Stars and the Army Commendation Medal. He served in the Vietnam conflict and in the Gulf War and was an enlisted aide to general officers. Upon his discharge as a master sergeant, he returned to Grinnell.

He is survived by his mother, Molly Crawford of Grinnell; one son, John of Lakehurst, N.J.; one stepdaughter, Lisa Morgan of Grinnell; two brothers, Russ of Grinnell and Peter of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and two sisters, Stephanie Farmer of Durham, N.C., and Michele Bruggeman of Brooklyn. He was preceded in death by his father.

A Neil Clark Crawford Memorial Fund has been established.
