RITES HELD FOR
MRS. CRAWFORD

Mrs. Adelaide Crawford, 88, of Montezuma died Wednesday, Jan. 3, in Grinnell.

The daughter of James B. and Mary Harry McFerren, she was born Sept. 16, 1884, in Poweshiek County. She attended rural school and Montezuma High School.

On Feb. 12, 1908, she was married to Luther H. Crawford at her parents' home north of Montezuma. The couple had one son, Harry. They established their home on a farm near Ewart and farmed until about 1914, when they moved into Montezuma. In the late 1920s, they acquired the Cottage Hotel and operated it as the Crawford Hotel until 1957.

Mr. Crawford died in 1968, and she maintained the home as long as she was able. The last few years she had been cared for in her sister's home in Grinnell.

Mrs. Crawford was affiliated with the Methodist Church and was a member of Martha Circle. She was an active of the Pythian Sisters and the Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Crawford of Oskaloosa; three sisters, Mrs. Barbara Henry of Deep River, Mrs. Verna Merrill of Broken Bow, Okla., and Mrs. Mabel Woods of Grinnell; and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at the Steffy Funeral Home in Montezuma with burial in the Masonic I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Montezuma.
