GRACE C. FOWLER

Grace C. Fowler, 95, formerly of Brooklyn, died April 27 at Good Samaritan Center, Estherville. Graveside services will be Monday, May 6, 11 a.m. at Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Wm. B. Daylong officiating.

Mrs. Fowler was born Sept. 8, 1900 in Rockford, Md., to B.F. and Lily Wheeler Hicks. She came to Brooklyn as a young girl, and lived most of her life here. She attended Brooklyn schools and was a graduate of Brooklyn High School.

She married Clinton W. Fowler April 12, 1922 at Brooklyn. He was president of Poweshiek County Savings Bank until his retirement in 1975. The couple became the parents of a son and a daughter.

The couple moved to Estherville in 1983 to be near their daughter, Mrs. Arthur J. (Phyllis) Montgomery. Mr. Fowler died March 14, 1986, and Mrs. Montgomery, July 21, 1989.

Mrs. Fowler was a member of Brooklyn United Methodist Church and the PEO sorority. She enjoyed collecting antique jewelry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Phyllis Montgomery, two brothers and one sister. She is survived by her son, Phillip Fowler and his wife Sheree of Stevensville, Mont.; son-in-law Arthur J. Montgomery of Des Moines; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; one brother, Wayland Hicks of Sun City, Ariz.
