FUNERAL SERVICES HELD
FOR EDGAR H. SMITH

Edgar H. Smith, 71, a former Grinnell resident, died Feb. 21 at his home in Hollywood, Fla.

The son of Thomas J. and Catherine Smith, Mr. Smith was born Feb. 7, 1898 in Wilton Junction. The family moved to Grinnell in 1914, where Smith's father, operated Smith Motor Co. at 807 Broad St.

A graduate of Grinnell High School and Carpenter College of Mortuary Sciences, Smith was employed for two years at the Snyder Funeral Home. In 1922, he married Eunice Henry of Victor, and the couple moved to Chicago, where they lived for some 54 years while Smith worked for the Thomas Madden Excavating and Construction Co.

Surviving him are his widow of Hollywood, Fla.; his nieces and nephews; and four sisters: Mrs. Donald (Gladys) Dow of Grinnell, Mrs. Vern (Elsie) Alden of Glendale, Calif., Mrs. Lester (Dorothy) Wilson of Esmonds, Wash. and Mrs. Edward (Evelyn) Steinbeck of Downers Grove, Ill.

Funeral Services for Edgar Smith were held Tuesday, Feb. 25 at the Adams-Winterfield Funeral Home in Downers Grove. Services were also held at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home in Grinnell at 2 p.m. Feb. 26. Rev. Newell Davis of the United Congregational Church officiated. Organist was Mrs. Willard Heffner.

Pallbearers were Orville Henry, Bill Henry, Harold Wallis, John Montgomery, James McCann, and Leland Hart. Burial was in the Smith family plot in Hazelwood Cemetery.
