DORIS SMITH
DIES OF BURNS

Doris Smith, 64, of 228 Broad St., died Christmas day at the University Hospitals Burn Center in Iowa City where she had been a patient since Sept. 5.

Mrs. Smith was burned severely when her clothing caught fire in an accident at her home.

The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church here, preceded by the Vigil Service at 7 p.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith is survived by one son, Michael Smith of the U.S. Navy in Jacksonville, Fla., two grandchildren, two brothers, and two sisters.

RITES HELD FOR DORIS SMITH

The Mass of the Resurrection for Doris Smith, 64, was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Harry N. Linnenbrink officiating.

Mrs. Smith died Christmas morning at University Hospitals in Iowa City where she had been a patient since suffering severe burns in an accident Sept. 5.

Organist at Tuesday's Mass was Kathleen Heffner, and pall bearers were Wayne Dayton, Cyril Callagher, Dennis Paul, Dan Smith, Kenny Smith, and Terry Smith.

The Vigil Service was held at 7 p.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home.

Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of Sylvester Ambros "Pat" and Frances Amie Craemer Smith, she was born Aug. 14, 1912, in Grinnell. She attended the Grinnell schools and had made her home in Grinnell all of her life.

She had worked at the Grinnell Shoe Co. for 17 years and at Grinnell College in the housekeeping department for 15 years before her retirement in July of this year. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Survivors include her son, John Michael Smith, who is stationed with the U.S. Navy in Jacksonville, Fla.; two grandchildren; two brothers, Carl J. Smith of Burlington and Larry E. Smith of Oceanside, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs. Keith (Helen Irene) Paul of Mabel, Minn., and Mrs. Montie (Mary Phyllis) Constant of Cottage Grove, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, and two brothers, Thomas V. and Bernard F. Smith.
