SUCCUMBS FRIDAY
TO LONG ILLNESS

Arthur Tilman Sawyer, 63, of Grinnell, died late Friday morning at a local hospital following an illness of the past few months.

Memorial services were held this afternoon (Monday) at St. Paul's Episcopal church with the Rev. Charles Preble, vicar of the church, officiating. Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He was the son of Eneas and Severina Ronstad Sawyer and was born Oct. 10, 1899, near Gilman. Mr. Sawyer was graduated from Grinnell College and received his LL.B from Columbia school of law and then practiced law in New York state.

On March 9, 1934, he was married to Dorothea Eloise Wagner and to this union one daughter, Barbara, was born. The family moved to Grinnell six years ago.

He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal church in Grinnell and served as Senior Warden on the Bishop's Committee.

Survivors include his wife and daughter at the family home; two brothers, Tilman A. Sawyer of Oak Ridge, N.J. and Thomas Sawyer of Hartford, Conn.; four sisters, Mrs. Esther Brown of Eugene, Ore., Mrs. Mildred McCartheney of New Jersey, Mrs. Sylvia Todd and Mrs. Elizabeth Shea, both of New York City; two step brothers, Donovan Evans of Grinnell and Bertram Sawyer of California; and one step sister, Mrs. Gertrude Twedt of California.

Mr. Sawyer was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mrs. Hannah Twedt.
