RITES CONDUCTED

Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel E. Brush, 72, wife of J. Basil Brush of 1329 Eighth Ave., Grinnell, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Mrs. Brush died Friday evening at Grinnell General Hospital, following brief hospitalization.

The daughter of Clarence Delvin and Mary Josephine Jarkowsky Kenner, she was born Sept. 10, 1896, at Chelsea. She attended schools near her home, and attended Iowa State University at Ames.

Following her education she taught for five years in the Chelsea elementary school. On June 11, 1919, she was married to James Basil Brush at Brooklyn. The couple farmed for 42 years in the Chelsea and Brooklyn areas before retiring in 1961 and moving to Grinnell. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last summer.

Mrs. Brush was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society of the church, the Grandmothers' Club and the auxiliary of Veterans of World War I.

She is survived by her husband; her children, Mrs. J.D. (Pauline) Shanahan of Grinnell, Mrs. Earl (Virginia) Geiger of Edina, Minn., Stanley B. Brush of Peoria, Ill., and Donald J. Brush of
Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister, Mrs. Carl (Lillian) Long of Peoria, Ill., and Clarence Kenner of Chelsea. She was preceded in death by one grandson; a brother, William Kenner; and one sister, Mrs. Charlotte Novak.

The Rev. Leo V. Kuebrich officiated at Tuesday's Requiem Mass for Mrs. Brush. Music was provided by Mrs. Willard Heffner, organist, and Mrs. Wayne Dayton and Wilma Schmitz, vocalists.

Pallbearers included Gary Geiger, Alan Holmes, Vernon Long, Dana Rucker, Michael Shanahan and John Vandyke. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.
