JULIA FORD, 90

Julia Ford, 90, of Grinnell, died June 21, 2012, at the Mayflower Community Health Care Center in Grinnell.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 26, at the Grinnell United Methodist Church with the Rev. Len Eberhart officiating. Organist was Marty Shull and vocalist was Judy Arendt. Pallbearers were Craig, Bill, Corey, Bob, Carey, Nathan and Jarren Ford and Aaron Phipps. Honorary bearers were Kelly Ford, Jessica Phipps, Cara Padgett, Charlotte Ford, Teresa Phipps and Alisha Ford. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice, Grinnell United Methodist Church or PALS.

Julia was born May 24, 1922 at her parents' home in Grinnell, the daughter of Louis and Ruth German Terpstra. She was raised in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1940. She later attended nursing school for two years. After her education, she worked for the Ben Franklin Store and Bartlett Jewelry in Grinnell.

On July 7, 1946, she was united in marriage to Burdette D. Ford, at the Grinnell United Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Grinnell where they raised their five children. For several years, she was also employed at Danish Maid Bakery and later McNally's Grocery Store in the bakery department. She moved to Seeland Park in Grinnell in August of 2007.

She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.

Julia was very family oriented; she loved family activities and gatherings with Christmas Eve being a very special family time in her home. She was quiet-natured, but knew the value of hard work and would lead by example. In her spare time, she liked to travel, go antique shopping and do craft work, including embroidering and sewing.

Survivors include her five children, Richard (Sue) Ford of Grinnell, Jerry (Karen) Ford of Grinnell, Gene (Chris) Ford of Oviedo, Fla., Connie (Joe) Phipps of Grinnell, and Tom (Anita) Ford of Oakland Acres; one sister, Rosellen Kensinger of Ft. Dodge; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Burdette, in 2009; and two grandchildren, Rhian Michael-John Ford and Melissa Hosey.
