HOWARD BOWEN
MEMORIAL SET

Howard R. Bowen, former Grinnell College and University of Iowa president who died Dec. 22, will be honored at a memorial service at 4:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, in Herrick Chapel at Grinnell College.

The services is open to the public. A reception will follow in Main Hall Lounge.

Speakers at the service will include George Drake, president of Grinnell College; Joseph F. Wall, professor emeritus of history; and Neal W. Klausner, professor emeritus of philosophy. Grinnell College chaplain Dennis Haas will officiate at the service, and college organist Marlys Boone will provide the music.

A nationally prominent educator, Bowen served as president of Grinnell College from 1955 to 1964 and was named to the school's board of trustees in 1972. In 1987, Grinnell established the Howard R. Bowen Scholarship Program, which awards five scholarships of $5,500 per year to Grinnell College students from Iowa. In May 1989, the college named its science building for Bowen and his wife, Lois, who died in August 1988.
