LEE R. PIERCE

Lee R. Pierce, 58, of Holiday Lake, Brooklyn, died March 31 at Grinnell Hospital.

Funeral services for Pierce were held at 10:30 a.m. April 5 in the Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Rev. Bruce Feuerbach, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Grinnell, officiated and organist was Nancy Sears. Casketbearers were Stephen Larson, Stephen Larson II, Tom Anthony, Gary Smith, Aaron Savage, and Mike Smith. Interment was in Kent cemetery, rural Brooklyn, with military rites conducted by members of Francis Gallagher American Legion Post #294.

A memorial fund has been established for the American Diabetes Association and may be left with the Nevenhoven Funeral Home.

Lee Roger Pierce, son of Clarence and Eve Smouse Pierce, was born south of Coon Rapids in Guthrie county.

Pierce received his education in Bagley. He served with the U.S. Army. He was a welder at Ryko Mfg. near Grimes, retiring in 1990.

He was united in marriage to Phyllis Cook Dec. 14, 1957 in Newton. They moved to Holiday Lake in 1992, coming from Des Moines.

Pierce was a member of the American Legion at Dexter. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and cooking.

Surviving are his wife, Phyllis; four daughters and their spouses, Denise and Pastor Stephen Larson of Fulton, Ill., Barbara Pierce of Brooklyn, Cathy and Tom Anthony of Pasadena, Tex., and Neva and Travis Cornelius of Austin, Tex.; two brothers, Leon "Red" Pierce of Dexter and Clark "Blackie" Pierce of Boone, and 11 grandchildren.

Pierce was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and two grandchildren.
