FRANCIS PIERCE RITES FRIDAY

Francis Pierce, 62, of 2746 Forbes Dr., Omaha, Neb., formerly of Grinnell, died Monday, Feb. 6, at Ehrling-Berquist Hospital in Omaha.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home here, with the Rev. Philip J. Ramstad of the United Church of Christ-Congregational officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner, and vocalists will be Ruth Ann Dayton and Wilma Schmitz. Pallbearers will be Russell Clubb, Duke DeHoedt, Francis Hasselman, Bob Martin, Leslie Patterson and Phillip Patterson.

Burial will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.

The son of Robert E. and Addie Naomi Reavis Pierce, he was born June 13, 1921, in Grinnell. He attended Grinnell schools.

On June 13, 1948, he was married to Ruth V. Beck in Grinnell. They lived in Grinnell for five years, moving to Sigourney and, in 1977, to Pittsburg, Kan. They had lived in Omaha since 1982. Mr. Pierce was a farmer and truck driver most of is life.

He is survived by his wife; his mother, Addie Pierce of Grinnell; his children, Janet Baker of New Sharon, Michael Pierce and Melvin Pierce, both of Pella, Sherri Remmers of St. Cloud, Minn., Roger Pierce of Pittsburg, Kan., Alan Pierce of San Diego, Calif., Dennis Pierce of Offut AFB, Neb., and Stephen Pierce of McCune, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Floyd Pierce of Gilman and James Pierce of Grinnell; and four sisters, Mae Graham of Tacoma, Wash., Pauline Claussen of Killduff, Ruth Dunnick of Grinnell and Patty Calleri of Orlando, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his father and two sons, Kevin and Thomas Pierce.
