GARLAND CARPENTER

Garland E. Carpenter, 76, Mt. Carmel, Ill., died Oct. 3 in Norton Hospital, Louisville, Ky.

A funeral service was held Oct. 6 in Trinity United Methodist Church, Mt. Carmel, with burial in Highland Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.

He was born Nov. 23, 1915, in Malcom, the son of Frank and Alvera Schultz Carpenter. He was married to Olga Larsen Nov. 28, 1936, in Grinnell.

He was employed in the former United Food Store in Grinnell. In Mt. Carmel he was manager of the DeKalb Agricultural Association which he opened in 1947. He was a member and past president of Rotary International from which he received its Paul Harris Award for outstanding service to Rotary and was a member and member of the board of trustees of Trinity United Methodist church. After his retirement he was a real estate broker for the Grassinger Real Estate Agency in Mt. Carmel.

He is survived by his wife Olga, Mt. Carmel; one son Gary Carpenter, Dale, Ind.; two grandchildren; one sister Leona Ahrens, Grinnell; and one brother Gerald Carpenter, Des Moines. He was preceded in death by one sister Opal Taylor.
