DOROTHY CARPENTER, 84

Dorothy Carpenter, 84, a former resident of Brooklyn, died April 13, 2003 in Illinois following a stroke.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 18 at Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.

A celebration of her life will be held for family and friends following burial of the cremains. Call the Methodist Church for details.

Dorothy Marie (Messer) Carpenter was born November 13, 1918, on a farm near Guernsey. Her parents were John and Alta (Norton) Messer. Dorothy married Warren E. Carpenter of Brooklyn in 1938. The couple later lived a short time in Malcom where her husband managed the co-op. They returned to Brooklyn and operated Carpenter Feed store for nearly 30 years.

Dorothy is survived by her children--Earl (Arlene) Carpenter, Barrington, Ill.; Kathleen Kay (George) Schueppert, Barrington, Ill.; and Carol (Dr. Randall) Hanson, Waukee. She also is survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and an infant son, in 1947.

The family suggests donations to the Brooklyn Historical Society's museum or to the Brooklyn United Methodist Church of which she was a member.
