JEANNE MCPHERSON PLATT

Jeanne McPherson Platt, of Des Moines and Montezuma, died Aug. 14, 1999 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Miss Platt's funeral was Aug. 17 at First Presbyterian Church in Montezuma. Officiating was Rev. George Salnave, pastor of the church.

"Jesus, Joy of Man's Desiring," "Oh God in Ages Past," "A Mighty Fortress" and "How Great Thou Art" were selections played by organist Kathleen Ramsey.

Casket bearers were William C. McMillen II, James McClain Myrick II, John Michael Lowry, Nabil Chamat and Constantine Chamat.

She was buried in the Masonic-IOOF Cemetery in Montezuma.

She was born in Montezuma, the youngest daughter of John Henry and Lila (Finnegan) Platt. She graduated from Montezuma High School and received degrees from both Grinnell College and Stanford University in California.

Miss Platt taught Spanish at Roosevelt High School in Des Moines for many years and was fluent in that language.

She belonged to the First Presbyterian Church, was a 75-year member of the P.E.O., a member of the Scottish Heritage Society and the Poweshiek County Historical Society.

Preceding her in death were her parents and two sisters, Constance Platt Lowry and Mary Platt Budlong.

She is survived by a niece, Constance Sue Budlong Myrick of Cordova, Tenn., great-nieces and nephews, Jeanne McPherson McMillen, James McClain Myrick II, Lisa Lowry, Lesley Carbajal and John Michael Lowry.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Montezuma. Watts Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
