ANDREW DALE APPLEBY

Andrew Dale Appleby, son of Christian Bringle and Anna Appleby, was born in Stavanger, Norway, on August 13, 1868, and came to this country with his parents when a very small child. He is the last of a family of 8 children.

When Andrew was about two and one-half years old the family settled in New Sharon, Iowa, where he lived 'till about 13 years of age. A brief time was spent in Nebraska, and the rest of his life was spent in and near Grinnell, Iowa which he called home for nearly 75 years. As a child he was affiliated with the Norwegian Lutheran church.

On July 26, 1890, he was united in marriage to Emma Baustian, at Toledo, Iowa. His wife and one son have preceded him in death. He spent his entire life as a farmer and carpenter, loving his home and family and very happy in his adopted country.

He lived a long life, and about 10 weeks ago he became seriously ill, passing away June 28, 1956, in Grinnell, almost 88 years of age.

He is survived by one son, Austin Appleby, Grinnell, five daughters, Mrs. Ida Logan, Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Lucille Foster, Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Lillian Pugh, Grinnell, Mrs. Clara Lash, Arvada, Colorado, and Mrs. Gladys Jones, Newton, Iowa; also 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 2 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Burial was in Ivy Hill cemetery at Malcom.
